How to use
- Input music. Pick where the music comes from, then capture about 10 seconds of it.
- Choose your instrument. Cello, violin, piano or guitar (with tab), and the main melody or the bass line.
- Read and play. The sheet music appears below. Press ▶ Play to hear it, and switch instrument or part at any time.
Ways to input music
- Browser tab (YouTube)
- Start the song in another tab, press Capture tab, pick that tab and keep “Also share tab audio” on. The cleanest option. Works in Chrome and Edge on a computer.
- Microphone
- Play the song out loud near your computer and press Listen. Bigger speakers work much better than a laptop or phone speaker.
- Audio or video file
- Choose an MP3, MP4, M4A, WAV or similar file, then drag to pick the 10 seconds you want.
- Sing or hum
- Record yourself singing or humming a tune, with an optional click track to keep time.
- Sheet music file
- Have sheet music as a MusicXML file (.musicxml, .xml, .mxl) for any instrument? Choose it to rewrite it for cello, violin, piano or guitar. Transposing instruments (B♭ clarinet, trumpet, sax, horn) are put into concert pitch, and piano music keeps the top line (the melody). If the file has several parts, pick one in Step 2.
Tips
- Pick a stretch where the tune is clear, such as the chorus.
- The first time, the app downloads a 180 MB model that separates the parts. After that it’s saved in your browser.
- The main melody takes about 20 seconds to write. Bass is ready as soon as the parts are separated.
- Under the sheet: ▶ Original clip plays what you captured so you can compare, Download saves MusicXML (opens in MuseScore and similar), Print / PDF prints or saves a PDF, Adjust changes the octave and note names (cello) and the tempo of song clips, and Start over clears everything for a new piece.
- Result looks wrong? Try a clearer 10 seconds, switch between Main melody and Bass, and tap 👎 to tell us what was off.
What powers this
Main melody: SheetSage-A2S (E. Cummins, Z. Huang, A. D’Hooge, ACM Multimedia 2026; paper, code, MIT, model) with the MuQ encoder (Tencent AI Lab; CC BY-NC 4.0). Part separation: Demucs (Meta AI, MIT) via demucs-web-onnx and ONNX Runtime Web (MIT). Pitch tracking: pitchy (MIT). MusicXML: music21 (BSD-3-Clause). Engraving: Verovio (LGPL-3.0).
Input music
Only have a PDF?
This version needs MusicXML. Many pieces on musescore.com can be downloaded as MusicXML. You can also export MusicXML from MuseScore, Finale, Sibelius or Dorico. PDF upload is planned.
Sing one note at a time on “la” or “da” so each note has a clear start. Headphones keep the click out of the recording. Any voice works: the converter picks the right octave for cello.
We transcribe 10 seconds at a time. Pick a part where the tune is clear, like the chorus.
The first time takes longer while the app loads its processing model. After that it starts fast.
- Capture 10 seconds
- Separate the parts
- Write the melody
The first time, the app downloads its separation model (about 180 MB). After that it’s saved in your browser. Separating the parts runs on your computer. For the main melody, the 10-second clip is sent to the transcription server and deleted right after; it is never stored.
